Where: Montauk Lighthouse, Montauk Point
Other details: Together with the Oceans Institute, the Montauk Surf Museum celebrated its grand opening on the ground level of the Montauk Lighthouse. With one of summer's more impressive sunsets serving like a painted backdrop, the lighthouse gates opened to the Montauk community. Guests included professional surfer and filmmaker Mikey DeTemple, owner of Pilgrim Surf + Supply Chris Gentile, and artist and long time wave chaser Tony Caramanico. Caramanico brought along a surprise for the museum's collection--two recently acquired autographed surfboards that are exact replicas of those used in Bruce Brown's iconic Endless Summer film. The event also featured an outdoor lawn amphitheater screening a selection of surf films. The evening's admission to the grounds served as a fundraiser for this new addition to Montauk's landmark lighthouse. Drinks were donated by the roving Montauk Brew Co. tap, and food was available from the Sea Bean.
