You And Me Documentary Screening

Where: The Surf Lodge

Other details: The normal crowd at the Surf Lodge arrived for sunset cocktails on Friday evening, but there was an extra special reason for attendance that night. Filmmaker Taylor Montemarano, a Montauk local, along with her co-director and filmmaking crew screened their inspiring documentary You and Me. The emotionally powerful and uplifting film followed the heartening journey of Australian surfer Barney Miller as he maneuvered and adjusted to the struggles of life after a tragic car accident that left him quadriplegic.

The evening was magical: Attendees enjoyed drinks, like glasses of rose and the Surf Lodge’s famed Endless Summer alongside Fort Pond before witnessing the moving documentary. The You and Me Montauk premiere was presented by Whalebone Magazine and drew out the cast and crew of the documentary along with weekenders and locals. Following the screening was a Q & A, which offered the crowd insight into the director’s filmmaking process. Producer Michael Lawrence ended his conversation with the audience by delving into his inspiration: “The ocean allows you to feel things and that is a really true connection and standing here on a beach having this moment is all connected.”
