Some people claim that hipsters in Russia have almost been nonexistent up until 2009. Others will note that in the 1950's Russia had plenty of creative, free-thinking individuals that today would be categorized as "hipsters". The glaring differences between then and now? Hipsters today are a pop culture phenomenon with less of a political agenda.
