If there was any doubt that the Spirit Awards were a different animal altogether from the Oscars and other uptight awards shows, Seth Rogen's opening monologue should put that to bed. Not only is it 15 minutes of extremely foul-mouthed and very funny jokes about, amongst other topics, Michael Fassbender's penis and Chris Brown performing at the Grammys, but it's also refreshing that IFC lets Seth criticize their own awards show, from the dress code to the production design. Obviously the f-bombs and dick jokes would be a little over the top for the Oscars (or would they, cast of Bridesmaids?) but even a pinch of that self-awareness would go a long way.
