Ancient culture met Hollywood last night as Donna Karan joined Australian photographer Russell James to host a gala celebrating the L.A. opening of his exhibition "Nomad Two Worlds." The night drew a collection of celebrities, fashion designers and models, as well as musicians and artists indigenous to the land down under.
Nomad Two Worlds is James' decade-long multi-media collaborative project in which he works with indigenous artists from Australia and the Americas to create modern works that refer to their traditional roots, such as celebrity portraits set against the backdrop of their ancient culture and landscape. Last night's debut also featured a fashion aspect thanks to Donna Karan who designed one-of-a-kind scarves in the batik tradition to be sold with proceeds going to her foundation UrbanZen which helps preserve native cultures.
Famous faces from various realms of entertainment came out for the gala to get a first look at the new exhibition on display at Pier 59 Studios West in Santa Monica through March 2nd. Among guests in attendance were Erin Heatherton, Alana Stewart, Ally Hilfiger, Amanda Garrigus, Anna Wintour, Donna Karan, Drake Bell, Estella Warren, Fern Mallis, Hugh Jackman, Jamie Durie, Jimmy Iovine, Lincoln Lewis, Lisa Rinna, Martha Stewart, Nicole Lenz, The Black Eyed Peas, Jessica Dykstra, Nicole Miller, Irene Bedard and Alina Puscau.
