First there were the stores Marc Jacobs, Marc By Marc Jacobs, Marc Jacobs' menswear store and Marc Jacobs accessories. Now he has his own bookstore, Bookmarc, on BOTH coasts.  Okay, the L.A. bookstore is actually in the old accessories store space but still, it's kind of out of control. And last night L.A. celebrated the expansion of the designer's unstoppable empire there for a book of photography by Brian Bowen Smith, The Men and Women of Marc Jacobs. So yes, now there's book about people who work with Marc Jacobs that you can buy at his bookstore.

How does one even get to putting out a book of photos of people associated with Marc Jacobs? For Smith, it was skateboarding. He was a pro skater who caught the attention of Herb Ritts while skating one day and it was love at first ollie. He became the legendary photographer's assistant for four years, during which he honed his own skills behind the lens and is now a super successful photographer in his own right. Remember those Marc Jacobs ads with naked celebrities from a few years ago? Smith shot those, so they have a history.

A sharp crowd that included Cindy Crawford and Minnie Driver came out to the book signing to help celebrate and pick up a new addition for their living room library. If you're a sucker for coffee table books like us, consider this an addition to your list of gifts to give for the holidays.
