If 1998 was the year for animated films about ants, 2012 seemed to be the year of Halloween-themed features, with Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, and ParaNorman going head-to-head in the category of Best Picture of Sunday's Annie Awards held at the UCLA Royce Hall. When it was all said and done, Wreck-It-Ralph beat the competition, winning honors for Best Director (Rich Moore of "Futurama"), Best Voice Actor (Alan Tudyk), Best Screenplay (Phil Johnston and Jennifer Lee), and Best Music, which included Skrillex as one of the recipients.
Other winners included "Robot Chicken" for Best General Audience Animated TV show, as well as The Avengers and Life of Pi which won for special effects work. Paperman, also nominated for an Oscar, won for Best Animated Short and is fully watchable online.
