I go to a lot of galas, some better than others, but at every gala there seems to be an auction. And I learned that for most galas and live auctions they plug a bidder (or five) because it’s super awkward if no one’s bidding. So, similarly, you need to plug people whose personalities or whose job it is to entertain people, but they blend in as other guests. Or they could actually just be guests who are funny or kooky or do absurd things. People who like to dance a lot or are really good conversationalists. They’re like the energy setters and they lead the pack.

You need someone who’s going to do something a little outlandish so that the gossip and the legend of your party lives on forever, essentially. So people will talk about your party for months to come. 

Oh, and make sure the most interesting people interact with the most boring people - if the boring people are important to you.
