No Vacancy
Perhaps you knew it as Janes House or Hotel Juniper open only to host special events and memorable parties here and there in its previous lives, but this year the venue finally settled down as No Vacancy. Owned and operated by the Houston brothers (
La Descarga,
Pour Vous,
Harvard & Stone, and
Dirty Laundry also on this list), the 111-year-old Victorian home in the heart of Hollywood was revamped with stately marble bars, tufted red velvet seating and antique-style lamps and light fixtures while retaining its original layout of a three-story home divided by many rooms, complete with porches, balconies and fireplaces. With a mysterious and theatrical entrance that involves figuring out which one of three unmarked hallway doors is unlocked to be greeted by a lingerie-clad woman in repose on her bed who shows you how to access the party, No Vacancy already gives you one of L.A.'s most unique nightlife experiences before you've even ordered a drink.
Once inside, you'll find the layout definitely lends the place an unmistakeable house party feel as you make your way through its many rooms. Bars serve everything from $5 draft beer to artisan cocktails like the China Doll (Jasmine-infused Caprock Gin, lemon juice, coconut jasmine cream, egg white) and Madame Lou (D’Usse, Grey Goose Pear, lemon, anise) concocted by an all-star lineup of L.A.'s most distinguished mixologists. In addition, the courtyard features a range of entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays like live music, special guest DJs like Skrillex and Thom Yorke, burlesque, fire spitting and tightrope walkers to complete a truly unmatched destination for nighttime thrills.
