1973: Marlon Brando Sends Sacheen Littlefeather To The Stage
Marlon Brando was nowhere to be found when they called his name for his role as Vito Corleone in The Godfather. Not only did he decline the award, he sent Native American activist Sacheen Littlefeather to the stage, who delivered an epic monologue about the treatment of Native Americans in the film industry.
