Blaqstarr celebrated the release of his new EP at Tuesday night sans his DJ prefix. Indeed, someone's making the jump from producer for artists like M.I.A. to rapper, but is it a smart move?

It's safe to say Blaqstarr has built a successful music career between writing/producing songs for M.I.A. and Rye Rye, and dropping an album on Diplo's label, Mad Decent. Now he's made the transition from behind-the-scenes to center stage as a rapper. Blaqstarr certainly looked good when took the stage with a mic at Cinespace, but we can't say the same about how he sounded. The songs were hardly dancable and the lyrics were hard to understand. Although his MC debut was less than stellar, we haven't lost faith in him yet, but maybe he should think about sticking to his DJ roots.
