The two wed in 2000, just after his fortune started quadrupling. Their lifestyle soon turned lavish, but their marriage was no fairy tale. In her essay detailing their relationship, Justine revealed that Elon often told her, "If you were my employee, I would fire you." He pushed her to become a Silicon Valley trophy wife, to dye her hair blonde, and shrugged off her career ambitions he once supported. After the sudden death of their first son, Nevada, from SIDS, Justine said he regarded her open grief as "emotionally manipulative."
Over the next five years of the marriage, they had five more sons - twins, and then triplets - but he was obsessed with work and Justine wasn't happy. He filed for divorce and a long financial battle ensued (her lawyers claim his postnup agreement was misleading in terms of how much he was really worth). Today, they're estranged, but they share custody of their children ("I deal with his assistant," Justine said).
