Parker
If you needed proof that the smartphone is more than just a way to take post photos of your food on the internet, how about this: it can solve the single largest issue plaguing L.A.: the daily nightmare that is finding a parking spot. Yes, Parker uses a series of actual sensors set up around town to tell you, in real time, where there are open street spaces (similar to the systems in place in the garages of Santa Monica Place, Westfield Century City, etc) or garage/lot spots. If that alone wasn't good enough, this little gem will also mark your spot so you never get lost, pay for your parking electronically, and keep track of your meter so you never get a ticket. Currently, the only major flaw is that the sensors are only comprehensively set up so far in Hollywood and Studio City, but it's constantly expanding, so don't sweat it. If you've ever missed a dinner reservation, surprise party or the first 25 minutes of a movie because of the L.A. Parking Mambo, this one is a must have. Oh, and if you're on the road, they're setting up sensors everywhere from NYC to Dallas. Free, Available for iPhone and Android
