Between FILTER Magazine's Culture Collide Festival to Incan Abraham's record release show and partying with Cut Copy, we have been all about music this week and we still haven't even gotten to last weekend's first ever Vibe Fest in Hollywood. The event at the Vibe Hotel was the brainchild of three young ladies who decided to take a risk and produce their very own mini music festival, just like that.
Vibe Fest producers Lauren Boitano, Melissa Taylor and Katie Limle picked the Vibe Hotel on Hollywood Blvd for the event, a place you've probably passed a million times but never noticed. A stroke of genius on their part, the dive-y throwback motor hotel was the ideal setting for the occasion, boasting a central courtyard with plenty of room for a stage, foosball, and ping pong, a tiki garden for food and drinks, and a special room for DJ sets and dancing.
An eclectic crowd moseyed through the various areas set up for the day-long music event where festers enjoyed an all-L.A. local lineup that included acoustic performances by Steffaloo, Eric Edmond Vasquez, as well as sets from bands Josh Boyd and The Bedroom Band, Twin Falcons, Atlantic Line and headliner The Ross Sea Party who killed it to close out the night. While guests swayed and tapped their feet to the live music as they sipped on beer and wine, the DJ room was POPPING OFF with a serious dance party thanks to sets spun by PZB, Heavy Accents and Merbert Moover.
Somehow Cheez-Its became a popular part of the equation in there but nobody seemed to know where they came from. Regardless, Cheez-Its are delicious and a welcome addition to any activity in my book.
Props to Melissa, Lauren and Katie for not just talking about it, but being about it and putting together a successful first Vibe Fest. Same time next year?
