Girls' Generation

Girls' Generation, South Korea
K-pop is gaining popularity throughout Asia, Europe, and Australia faster than the girl-group heavy genre can record albums. But it’s Girls Generation, the 9-member singing and dancing K-pop sensation, that’s about to make it big in the USA. That’s the plan, anyway. The group appeared on Letterman on January 31st and on Live! With Kelly on February 1st, taking both opportunities to squish together on a stage and perform their hit single “The Boys.” Since their debut album in 2007, Girls Generation (all 9 members are ages 20-22) has developed a huge fan base in South Korea, but they’re not the first girl group who plans on going all the way to the top. Unlike the Spice Girls or Destiny’s Child though, Girls Generation has size on their side, and with so many girls in the group they have the option of pulling a Menudo and recycling members as they become tired. Whether or not they actually make it in the US, the girls of Girls Generation are the current queens of K-pop. [Photo via]
