You might want to sit down for this: Miley Cyrus is taking a breather from her illustrious recording career. Why? The poor man's Taylor Swift, in the midst of a challenging transition from Nickelodeon fixture to adult entertainer (no, not that kind--yet), is sick of making music that "doesn't truly inspire" her.
But where are we to turn for inspiration in your stead, Miss Cyrus?
Miley is trying to class up and mature her act. First she ditched her tween-friendly Hannah Montana altar ego and released a legitimate Top 40 hit under her own name. She's got a Nicholas Sparks weepy coming out soon with embarrassed co-star Greg Kinnear. And last night, in a preview of things to come when Cyrus dominates next year's awards cycle, she slouched her way through the Oscars in a suffocating corset thingy.
Now, the "Party in the USA" songstress, her generation's Joan Baez, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell rolled into one, has defected from her native country for another sophisticated venue: a Parisian rooftop.
It all makes sense. After all, she's more profound than the average starlet. As she tells Teen Vogue about herself and boyfriend Liam Hemsworth:
"I think we're both deeper than normal people -- what they think and how they feel. He's very grateful for what he has, but he doesn't let it go to his head. I'm like that too."
Another sign of Cyrus's sharpening edge (and Teen Vogue's circa 2004 interview fodder): Samantha is the Sex and the City character she identifies with most! Which means a lesbian fling with Sonia Braga and a life sized nude self-portrait might just be enough to console us over the loss of Miley's music.
