Khosrow Hassanzadeh, Haft Khan: The Seven Labors of Rostam
In his first solo exhibition in New York City, Iranian artist Khosrow Hassanzadeh presents a series of massive murals on tile, one as long as 28 feet, that combine "Persian visual traditions with pop representations of the once-celebrated icon of the wrestler."
Entitled "Haft Khan: The Seven Labors of Rostam," the series is inspired by Rostam, a Herculean hero of Persian myth, who aroused a popular movement of wrestling in 19th century Persia. Through his artwork, Hassanzadeh seeks to preserve this lost culture.
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 1, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Through March 31 at Leila Heller Gallery’s Chelsea location, 568 West 25th St. For more information, go HERE.
