It was a "Rock 'N Roll High School" Reunion at Clic Gallery, where a crowd of art and music enthusiasts turned out for last night's Opening Reception of "BYE BYE CBGB," an exhibition by Parisian artist Bruno Hadjadj, who recorded the famed club's closing in 2006. The gallery showcased sketches, black-and-white photography, and silver prints mounted on lights, illuminating the past glory of CBGB, where artists such as The Ramones, Blondie, and The Talking Heads got their starts.
In the spirit of the evening, the gallery forwent wine in favor of cans of PBR, which were sipped warily by the Parisian artist's French fans and toasted heartily by the many CBGB veterans present. The experience leant new meaning to "CBGB & OMFUG," which stands for Country Bluegrass Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers.
When not admiring Clic Gallery's impressive collection of art and star portraiture, guests congregated around the room's smallest art patron, a miniature dog, who tried to steal the show. But Mr. Hadjadj's art won the night, and fortunately for art and CBGB fans everywhere, is on display throughout the month of February. For scenesters who can't make it to the gallery, a book of Bruno Hadjadj's sketches and photography is also available.
