Inside The Friends Of Caritas Cubana 9th Annual Fall Fiesta Fundraiser

The Friends of Caritas Cubana Committee and Junior Committee came together to host the FCC Fall Fiesta Fundraiser on Thursday, October 20th at Doubles to raise money for Caritas Cuba in Cuba. It was just the Latin night out guests were craving, with Cuban sandwiches, hand rolled cigars by CF Dominicana Cigars and a silent auction to loosen the tightest of purse strings with items donated by BLADE, Stubbs & Wooten, Christian Louboutin, emerging artist Kristin Simmons, private hunting club, Tamarack Preserve, Mets and Rangers tickets and more. The evening kept in full swing as the younger guests relocated to afterparty host PHD Midtown.

Friends of Caritas Cubana is a 501(c)(3) non-governmental organization (NGO) that enhances the capacity of Caritas Cuba to make life-changing improvements in the lives of the most vulnerable people of Cuba. Caritas Cuba is active in every province of Cuba and serves approximately 70,000 needy individuals annually, providing humanitarian and social services to vulnerable populations who live in poverty or are excluded from society. Caritas Cuba relies mostly on its volunteer staff and its funding is vastly smaller than the needs of the population it serves. Caritas services are available to anyone in need, regardless of religion, political beliefs or sexual orientation. The organization’s programs include: daycare programs for toddlers; after school programs, tutoring, sports, arts and crafts, meals, and hygiene; day programs for young adults with Down syndrome, autism and other disabilities.

Hurricane Matthew swept across the eastern tip of Cuba leaving a trail of destruction and devastation. Baracoa and Maisi were significantly impacted. Ninety percent of the homes in Baracoa suffered damage from the powerful storm and five municipalities in the province of Guantanamo remain isolated.
