Music Unites Classical Music Showcase with violinist Mikhail Simonyan performed at City Winery two nights ago. Simonyan and the New York Philharmonic collaborated to raise money for Music Unites and the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) in Kabul, the only music school in Afghanistan.
Guests came together to listen to soothing music of violin composers Nathan Milstein, Johan Halvorsen, and Johannes Brames and to support the causes of Simonyan and Music Unites.
The Afghanistan National Institute of Music is a part of Simoyan's Beethoven Not Bullets campaign, which educates musicians of regardless of ethnicity or background. Music Unites' goal is to promote classical music to the present generation and a wider group of listeners. "Music has healing powers," Simonyan explains, and his strong belief in this has brought together this audience for his benefit performance. The gathering was intimate with mostly family and close friends of the musicians.
