Dear Natty –I’m planning a late summer wedding, and I am so overwhelmed! I’ve got the major stuff booked (a loft space in Tribeca for the ceremony and reception, food catered from our favorite neighborhood restaurant, flowers from a local florist…) but I’m still desperately searching for the perfect bridesmaid dresses. I’m trying to source as many things locally as possible, and I know that I DON’T want the traditional, matching taffeta disaster. Any charming and chic suggestions?

Dear Busted -
Lucky for you, you live in a city FILLED with fashion. From the biggest fashion houses, to the smallest up-and coming designers, there are plenty of non-traditional options for dresses of any sort. If you’re looking for something that won’t punish your best friends for standing by your side on your big day, check out some of these stylish suggestions...
ALLISON PARRIS is a local ready-to-wear designer, who’s charming frocks lend themselves perfectly to a sweet, summer wedding. In fact, she gets requests so often that she offers brides a 20% discount on their order when they purchase 4 or more of the same style (plus free shipping!) Most of her styles, including the adorable Backless Summer Dress, are available in 3-4 color ways to suit your taste – and are universally flattering for bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes.
J.CREW has an extensive collection of wedding-wear, including gowns and dresses in just about every shape, fabric and color. The prices are affordable, and since J.Crew is available nationwide through their catalog and online, it’s super easy access for all of your girls to be able to purchase their dresses. But as a New Yorker, you get the benefit of having the one and only freestanding J.Crew Bridal Boutique, located at 769 Madison Ave – where you can touch, feel and try before you buy.
DIANE VON FURSTENBERG aka DVF is one woman who owes her success to The Dress. A classic wrap in a summery color is one way to guarantee your girlfriends a dress that they will ACTUALLY wear again. DVF’s styles are comfortable and flattering, and the New York boutique is more than happy to help you find the sizes and styles that you need.
Also, try visiting BELLA BRIDESMAID on 8th ave for a wide range of traditional and non-traditional options from various designers, including Joanna August, Kara Janx, Monique Lhuillier and more.
