My mother and father taught me how to respect people and not based on their gender. I didn't come from an affluent family, very modest actually, but we knew what's right and what's wrong. One time when I was a little kid I saw our neighbors outside - the daughter of the house was beating the younger girl in the house outside on the yard. I saw it as I was walking by and I started screaming at this girl. I don't know what I said but I was howling. The reason she was beating and kicking her was because she lost two pencils in two days. This was 35 years ago and I still think about it to this day.
