For his F/W 10 collection Rucci took a step back from last season- and it paid off big time! Leaving Bryant Park's grand tent, this season's collection was shown in the company's showroom, to a smaller, elite audience including such fashion heavy-weights as
Vogue's Andre Leon Talley, Tonne Goodman, Virginia Smith and Meredith Melling Burke as well as Martha Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg and Fran Lebowitz.
Seems Chado Ralph Rucci is finally coming into his own, receiving press and accolades everywhere he turns nowadays. From the behind-the-scenes profile on his tumultuous S/S10 runway show on Kelly Cutrone's show "Kell on Earth", to the announcement that Andre Leon Talley will be wearing custom-made Rucci for his turn as judge on America's Next Top Model, Rucci is everywhere; well everywhere on reality tv that is. Yet there was no drama, or reality tv - save for Launch My Line's Patrick McDonald seated front row - at this runway show. Instead Rucci focused on what many have termed his best collection to date, turning out impeccably made, luxurious day and evening wear. He is also the only American presently recognized as meeting the French specifications for a Couturier classification.
Other famous faces in attendance? Patti Smith - who we would never have expected to see at the decidedly upper east side style show - as well as J Alexander and Emma Snowdon-Jones.
