Zaragoza Mexican Deli And Grocery
Zaragoza Deli, packed in between the many other delis in the bodega mecca of the East Village, has the hands-down best Mexican food. Your $8 are way better spent on an authentic Mexican burrito here than at your local Chipotle or Qdoba. Apart from their actual prepared food, the mangos and avocados that fill the right of the store are always incredibly fresh and ripe. Local Mexican treats, like spicy lollipops, are also a rare find here.
The meat options range from chicken, to beef, to goat, often available with chipotle flavoring, but their vegetarian options are just as interesting. They offer a corn and mushroom quesadilla (Huitlacoche), as well as a pumpkin flower one (Flor de Calabaza), both bursting with flavor. Enchiladas are also available, but the most memorable experience is definitely the burrito. After packing the tortilla full, they’ll drizzle a green guacamole sauce, a sour cream sauce with cheese, and a chili, striped so that it looks like the Mexican flag.
