In celebration of the countdown to their 10 Year Anniversary, SUSHISAMBA partnered with Leblon and hosted their first ever Cocktail Competition on the rooftop of their West Village location, SUSHISAMBA 7 (87 7th Avenue) on Tuesday, July 21st from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Contestants included veteran mixologists and novices who shaked, muddled and poured through three rounds until a winner was chosen by the contest’s elite panel of judges – Ryan Knab from Leblon; Phillip Pepperdine, Beverage Director from SUSHISAMBA and Naren Young, mixologist from Bobo restaurant.
Contestants were given Leblon Cachaca and a set of 10 fresh ingredients to concoct their perfect cocktail. After three rounds, Cedric Hosy was named the winner. His prize included a gift certificate to SUSHISAMBA for $500, a Leblon gift basket, spotlight on the website and the SUSHISAMBA newsletter and an invitation to SUSHISAMBA’s 10 Year Anniversary party in November 2009. Most importantly, his winning cocktail the Cannon Cucumber Caipirinha becomes the official sambatini for SUSHISAMBA 7 for the month of August.
Cannon Cucumber Caipirinha
1 1/5 oz leblon premium cachaca
3/4 oz of ume kanon plum sake
1/2 oz of simple syrup
3 slices of cucumber
1 slice of jalepeno without the seeds
2 bar spoons of cilantro
3 limes wedge
Oregano for the sense...
Muddle cucumber, lime, and simple syrup. Add remaining ingredients and Shake well...double strain into a highball glass. Garnish with cucumber inside the glass and a hint of oregano.
