Why: Gillian McCain and Legs McNeil will host a reunion of sorts, bringing together the original MUDD Club and CBGB crowd at a special screening of a new film, Danny Says, The Life and Times of Danny Fields on Tuesday, September 22 at The Players Theater. Rosemary Carroll, Jim Fouratt, Vincent Fremont, Anthony Haden-Guest, Duncan Hannah, David Ilku, David Johansen, Phoebe Legere, Richard Lloyd, Pat Loud, Paul Morrissey, Amos Poe, Robert Molnar and Fred Schneider (B-52’s), Anna Sui, and Ruben and Isabel Toledo. Other guests planning to attend include: Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars, Michael Avedon, Janeane Garofalo, Mary McFadden, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Michael Stipe, Liz Swados, Poppy de Villeneuve and Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads). Danny Says is a documentary about the life and times of Danny Fields, the agent, editor, and provocateur who worked with and inspired Jim Morrison, Iggy Pop, MC5, Lou Reed, The Ramones, Nico, and many more. Your hosts, Gillian McCain and Legs McNeil, are the co-authors of the classic book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, whose dedication reads, “For his gorgeous taste in music, his generous intellect, and his killer sense of humor, this book is dedicated to Danny Fields, forever the coolest guy in the room.” Please Kill Me is available in 14 languages. Next year it will be re-released in a special 20th anniversary edition from Grove Atlantic.
