What kind of music are you into right now?
There's a lot: Haim, Solange, Crystal Castles, the new Kanye is amazing. My brother actually helped produce one of the songs, New Slaves. I'm really excited for the Jay-Z album. I can't wait, its going to be killer.
So what got you interested in DJing?
Honestly, I had always been fascinated by it, but it wasn't until one summer in college when I was living in the Lower East Side with my best friend Cici that Carlos Quirarte called me up and he was like, 'listen - my DJ just bailed, I need you to come here, I need you to do this' and I was like 'Carlos, I've never DJ'd in my life and you want me to go to the Jane, on a Thursday night, and DJ?' He goes 'get here 30 minutes early, Matt [Kliegman] will show you how it all works.' He told me to just download this program on my computer, and I'm like...okay. I ended up playing until 5 in the morning. There was this one doorguy named James who was screaming in my face at 4:30 in the morning, like 'play Kings of Leon!' and I was like....okay. That was so much fun, and after that it was a wrap. I played every Thursday night with my best friend at college just for our Bard friends. That was the most practice I could get when I was in school, and then every summer I would play clubs. I had a residency at Sway one summer on Sunday nights, which was kind of cool when Sway was cool, and then I don't know, it just kind of took off.
