Are you working on any new art projects you can tell us about?
I have a solo show at a gallery called PARSE in New Orleans in September. It is primarily a video work made at a senior center in Chelsea. Director Lara Gallagher and I worked with a group of women to reenact the pilot episode of The Golden Girls over the course of a few months. We brought a film crew each week and we workshopped a scene, allowing all the women to take turns playing each role. It was an incredible experience, and the video is both joyful and an incisive look at some of the issues that our culture manages to ignore: female sexuality over a lifetime, the aging body and the isolation that occurs when you no longer have anything to offer to a Capitalist society. But of course, it approaches these taboos topics with humor, a maneuver that always attracts me.
