Guilty Pleasure
A warm, melty chocolate chip cookie from Jacques Torres (I once met the chicest 70-year-old New York woman who first watched me polish one off before deciding to inform me that she cuts her same cookie in eighths, then freezes the pieces. They last her up to two months...), Milkbar's birthday cake truffles are a NY classic, and chocolate from one of my secret spots, Varsano's-- it's a tiny neighborhood chocolate shop and it's owner, Mark, makes some of the best chocolate I've ever had (ask for a Ronnie's Ultimate and tell him I sent you!). On the savory side, I'll never turn down the limited-availability, au poivre burger that Raoul’s serves at its bar only (Oh, and the accompanying duck fat fries dipped in the burger’s cognac au poivre sauce aren’t too bad either).
