Can you tell me a little bit about how The L Magazine was created back in 2003?
My brother Scott and I moved to New York around the same time and felt like there was a lack of a really simple pocket guide. Earlier, we had both been living in Paris at the same time, and we basically learned to navigate our city experience with little guidebooks like Pariscope and L'Officiel. Scott organized a group of friends, and we were doing monthly dinners in to discuss the idea of launching a magazine. The idea was to capture the excitement between Williamsburg and the East Village, where everyone was living in early 2000, and that's where we got the name - from the subway line that connects those neighborhoods.
