What was missing in the world of PR that inspired you to start the PR Net?
At the time I first conceived of The PR Net, I didn’t see anything in the landscape of industry media and events that spoke to me or my peers. It all felt very staid and corporate, and I saw a need to create something for the large group of people who weren’t being catered to. I was looking for a source of intel that felt smart and informative, but modern and useful, and gatherings for likeminded industry people where we could share opps for collaboration. This didn’t exist, so I set out to make it.
Why is it so important to have a community of fellow professionals, especially in this field?
An industry community is incredibly valuable for any sector, but especially for marcomms pros, as a big part of what we do leverages partnerships and collaborations. By interacting with our peers – who in our community work in a huge variety of verticals: arts & culture, travel, beauty, hospitality, fashion, etc. – we get invaluable intel about what else is going on out there, which again, is a big part of our remit. When we connect at our IRL gatherings with other industry pros, we hear about places, people, ideas, and trends that inform our daily work.
