If you’re up to spend a bit more time on the road, we’d recommend visiting the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, just under 4 hours from New York. At 3,491 feet, Mount Greylock is the highest point in the state, affording magnificent views of the surrounding landscape in all its fall splendor. You can drive to the summit, or you could challenge yourself to a strenuous hike that’s part of the Appalachian trail.
