Many of your viewers may not realize that you are a mother & daughter team.Elisa:One of our biggest issues is that we suck at getting ourselves out there. We're so obsessed with everyone else that we forget to do stuff like this. We're going to make more of an effort. It would help to give the brand a face. Well two faces. Is your brother, Louis, involved at all? He is a DJ right?
Lily:He DJs at our parties. He's involved as moral support and our mascot. Our office is in the living room of our parents apartment so naturally it's always been a family thing. My dad helps a lot with the business and legal side of it. He had some cool clients that we shot at the beginning, like RZA from the Wu-tang Clan.[Photo: Elisa Goodkind, Lily Mandelbaum, Louis Mandelbaum]So what is it like working as a mother & daughter team?Elisa:It's a delicate bond and an ability to get through a lot of the critical back breaking trials of doing a start up and the ups and downs of that. It has to be an incredibly honest relationship. What works for us is that we have extremely different strengths. It would end up a super art project if I were doing this alone. I handle the casting process and I oversee the content. Lily does more of the business/marketing.Do you think StyleLikeU brought your family closer together?
We've always been a little bit odd in how close we are as a family. But it's just how we are. It's odd to other people.
Elisa: I think we also realize that what we are doing is bigger than ourselves. We feel an intense sense of purpose and we're so passionate about what we're doing and what we want more than anything is for people to feel awakened and liberated from StyleLikeU. So if there's a certain discomfort with the family, we deal with it, because it's about the bigger picture.
We understand it's a moment in time and we happen to step into something and we didn't know where it was going to go. We are putting everything into this moment.
