Electric Room: Damon
Electric Room: DamonWhat do you think needs to change in New York nightlife? Everyone wants to rip on New York nightlife. I say it's still great, it's still cool. People say it's not, but I think it is 100 percent. People like me exist, and we're here, and we're doing cool stuff. People really just need to stick to their vision. A lot of clubs open one way, and a year and a half later it's something else. And I guess maybe the bigger clubs could embrace creativity a bit more. But I think New York nightlife is still great. What's your ideal club? Something like the exclusivity of this kind of place but a bigger club. Like a 500-700 person level. That's hard to do. I like clubs that are a little bit of everything, really mixed, not one exact type of person, but rather a New York sensibility. New York is a very mixed cultural place, so those are the ideal parties. What qualities do you think make you good at your job? I have a great eye for people; I remember faces like nobody's business. I can spot someones Louboutin shoes at the top of the ramp. Style doesn't cost a thing. Fashion does, but style does not. Someone with style I can spot a mile away. I've been doing this a long time, so I know every single New Yorker that will come here. If they belong in the party, I know them. I was a little intimidated by you the first time I met you, and I wasn't even trying to get in the club. Everyone says i'm terrifying. People that know me know that I'm not, but at the door everyone says I'm terrifying. I like it that way. So I guess presence is another important quality. [Photo via @legendarydamon]
