After years of obsessing over Carrie Bradshaw's wild romances and worldly escapades, who hasn't wanted to raid the iconic girl-about-town's extensive wardrobe? Well, now's finally our chance. Sarah Jessica Parker has teamed up with Nordstrom to bring fellow accessory-lovers a chic and affordable line of Italian-made shoes and handbags inspired by her glamorous life. The SJP Collection also includes a classic trench coat, with pieces named after her Sex and the City character, her favorite designer, and spots she frequents in NYC. We caught up with the actress-turned-designer at an exclusive preview event in New York on Wednesday, where we talked inspiration, grosgrain ribbon, and the ability to rock the "new neutrals."
On her inspiration:
"The inspiration behind the collection is nothing else as meaningful or specific as grosgrain. We had to wear it every day when we were little girls and had to iron it ourselves. Beyond that, it's just these periods in time that were both very strong images for not just me but, coincidentally, for my partner, George Malkemus."
"This single sole and color as a neutral- those were all inspiring points and really the direction I felt most strongly about. I really wanted to pursue it."
"Nordstrom was really excited about the collection and it was something that really didn't exist in this price point. It really strangely wasn't there as much as you would think. And also just the idea of wearing this kind of shoe to the office. This (purple t strap) should be treated as a black pump. You're no less capable of wearing a bright teal pump to the office than you are of wearing a proper tobacco colored business shoe."
