After facing the difficulties that inspired the book, when did you feel ready to explore and rehash them for other women?
Many of the difficulties (pursuing fertility treatment, being diagnosed with cancer, and having my marriage tested) occurred while I was writing the book. I actually started the book after my third miscarriage in fall 2011. At the time, I had no idea how my personal story would evolve, and it became a real debate within myself and with my agent and publisher how far to follow the story, especially as it became more of a roller coaster. But I realized that I was not alone in having underlying medical conditions discovered through fertility treatments or in having relationship problems during this experience, so I felt it was important to share these aspects of my story for others to connect to.
