Lauren Buys: Sheltering Sky/Electric Room
As if approaching a hot downtown club you've never been to isn't hard enough, having to talk your way past a towering South African model doesn't help. But that's what you'll have to do if you're trying to go to Electric Room, where Lauren Buys has been working while her primary venue Sheltering Sky is under construction. Fortunately whether she let's you in or not, she'll do it with a smile on her face, which definitely makes the idea of getting denied a little easier to take.

What has been your favorite event that Electric Room or Sheltering Sky has hosted so far?
It was a Halloween party, and I took my bird for the first two hours (laughs). And she sat on my shoulder. I was a French maid. With a bird. There was also an artist...he was having a show there too.
What is your favorite night of the week at Electric Room?
Definitely a Friday. I just think that it's a really fun crowd. The music is really good, Elle Dee is there on Fridays.
Before you started working in nightlife, what was your favorite club to go out to?
It was this really shitty dance club in the middle of nowhere [in South Africa], practically on a farm, but it was the only club to go where I'm from, so everyone would go on a Wednesday night. It was called 54...I think it was kind of rip-off of Studio 54, except it was on a farmland, it was a warehouse (laughs). Here, I went to Kiss & Fly all the time.
What do you do in your personal time when you aren't working the door?
I love baking (laughs). I model for Elite, I'm Zac Posen's fit model.
