Fashion 2.0 Awards Interviews with Robert Verdi and Simon Doonan

Robert Verdi
What about this incredible tailored jacket? It’s actually Hedi Slimane for Dior from years ago. Yeah – I don’t get rid of clothes. When I find a designer I love like Hedi (back in the day), I wouldn’t eat or pay my rent to buy the clothes. Which I know is, well, gay. Or stupid but… But now it’s a collector’s piece! Yes! And I don’t really love what he’s doing with Saint Laurent… the brand already had an enormous history and presence that he could capture in a modern way. But it [the latest collection] just seemed completely like fad and disconnected. Like a Marc by Marc Jacobs kind of thing. [Pointing to Simon Doonan’s blue foil coat] That’s Burberry by the way. Oh! They’ve been doing some wild things lately, rubber, foil… Yeah, you know what – I ran into him at Barneys and he told me he bought that thing. I said, you know what, you have a lot of discretionary income. And a good discount!
