Last Sunday I attended the Olive Juice Record's weekend music festival held at the Cake Shop in LES. It was a free event featuring great antifolk bands. My roommate from the band Dinowalrus has played there before and only had good things to say about the venue- leaving me completely curious of its alluring qualities. Many of the bands played upstairs, however I witnessed the headliner Jeffrey Lewis upclose and OH so personal.
His creative lyrics and melodies put me in a good mood and sent me on my way deeply pondering the small things in life. He told a joke that I hoped would never end about adopting an attitude... I won't get too in depth, but picture a pet store filled with different attitudes to adopt.
The Cake Shop provides a selection of some of the most delicious pastries I have ever tasted along with great coffee to accompany the delights. I was lucky to have had such great views of the performances as well. The Cakeshop has shows almost everyday but most are not free. Olive Juice Records sponsored this event yearly event, and I strongly recommened anyone interseted in this scene to check it out.
P.s. Make sure to be there for the free festival next year in 2009!
