Woodstock 50 Has Been Cancelled

In a move that perhaps no one cared enough to see coming, Woodstock's 50th anniversary festival, set to be held this August in Watkins Glen, New York, has been cancelled.

In a statement released to Billboard, Dentsu Aegis Network, the sponsor bankrolling the event, said, "despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees."

Although headliners Miley Cyrus and Jay-Z weren't particularly on-brand to begin with, it seems the organizers wish to avoid another Fyre Festival situation - or worse, another woodstock '99

While more than $30 million has already been spent on the lineup, according to Billboard, maybe this is for the best.
