The Plaza
This still-open stalwart is also the oldest on our list. Throughout the nearly 110 years it has been opened, The Plaza has been home-base to all things classic New York City. In 1907, it put down roots that have yet been uprooted. In fact, thanks to endless historical happenings here, from The Beatles' first North American performance, to Truman Capote's iconic Black and White Ball, this spot was officially deigned an Historical Landmark in 1986. No wonder Eloise was constantly getting yelled at; her pet turtle probably crawled across Ethel Merman's character's shoe.
