Tunnel

Tunnel opened its formerly freight terminal doors in 1986. The oblong, multi-level space was a change in scenery for many of New York's underground elite, and this novelty ushered in a wave of glorious debauchery. With gender neutral bathrooms converted from freight workers' locker rooms to railroad tracks running under the dance floor, this spot provided what the glitzy club kids of the '80s thirsted for but could never achieve - working class grime. This stalwart held on until 2003, when the quality-of-life campaign shut the whole thing down.
