Seen Persepolis yet? The recent dark comic strip biography of Iranian born artist Marjane Satrapi has its roots in the work of Ardeshir Mohassess, whose illustrations and cartoons are currently being exhibited in a comprehensive retrospective at the Asia Society and Museum. The work (think much more elaborate New Yorker comic strips), which has been in numerous international publications as well as the New York Times mainly deals with the Iranian Revolution.
I haven't seen it yet, but I've been itching to go. What better time to attend the exhibition than today...there will be a talk discussing Mohassess' work featuring another Iranian artist and curator of the show Shirin Neshat (whose work is absolutely amazing!), Iranian poet Esmail Kho'i and the former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark.
