This Todd Snyder-Designed Lodge Makes For The Most Luxurious Rustic Getaway

Now that most of us are unable to travel abroad, we are discovering treasures that do not involve crossing an ocean. Our favorite new discovery is the private luxury Maine resort, Hidden Pond. Tucked away among 60 acres of pristine birch forest in Kennebunkport, Hidden Pond offers a modern twist on the classic New England resort experience. The property features 46 exclusive guesthouses, two-bedroom cottages, one-bedroom bungalows, and new Treetop Lodges, each with a unique interior design and style as well as a spa, an organic garden named The Farm, and the farm-to-fork restaurant, Earth.

Last month, four-time CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year nominee, Todd Snyder partnered with Hidden Pond to debut his first hotel-design collaboration with The From Away Lodge by Todd Snyder. The stylish suite, inspired by Todd Snyder x L.L.Bean’s Fall 2020 ‘From Away’ Runway Collection is a takeover of one of Hidden Pond’s ten Treetop Lodges, gorgeously blending indoor and outdoor living. Echoing Hidden Pond’s ethos of rustic luxury, Todd Snyder brings his signature style to offer guests a one-of-a-kind stay in his distinctly designed suite, which can be booked alone or complete with “The From Away Experience” package curated by Todd Snyder himself.

“I was honored to design this suite at Hidden Pond. Our From Away Lodge is inspired by our Fall 2020 Runway Collection, which we called From Away because when you’re visiting Maine, you realize you’re either a Maine-Ah (from Maine) or From Away (not from Maine). I had a lot of fun translating the collection’s concept to the suite’s design aesthetic,” said Todd Snyder. “The suite is a reflection of how inspired I was by my first trip to Maine - the beauty of outdoor life, the people and the traditions. I hope a stay in this suite will help guests appreciate what makes Maine such a special destination.”

Todd Snyder, in collaboration with Hurlbutt Design and Maine-based designer Krista Stokes, combined traditional outdoor elements with premium textures and fabrics to create an upscale sanctuary amongst the enchanted woods where Hidden Pond is situated. Mirroring his runway collection, The From Away Lodge by Todd Snyder showcases a minimalist, contemporary design elevated by industrial accents. The interior’s playful color palette of red, black, and green, with pops of orange, embraces Todd Snyder’s forward-thinking design along with the hotel’s coastal New England charm.

Upon entering the Benjamin Moore Orange-painted front door, guests will find the foyer wrapped in custom camouflage wallpaper that frames a floor-to-ceiling picture window, showcasing the birch forest surroundings while artwork from local Kennebunkport-based artist, David Allen, adorns the neighboring walls. Embodying comfort and fashion-forward flair, the entry room and living room’s design elements include a custom orange Merino wool bench, custom furniture pieces made from reclaimed Russian Pine, John Derian decoupage plates hanging above the kitchen peninsula, antique standing lamps with custom black shades and hand-painted gold lining.

Additional living room artwork includes a framed Might & Maine piece illustrating the map of Maine overlaid in a quote from author E.B. White that reads “I would rather feel bad in Maine than feel good anywhere else.” The living room boasts ample seating for lounging and entertaining around the fireplace, including a daybed, featuring artwork above that’s constructed out of various materials, including paper, pigment, linen and wax by Laura Duerwald, complemented by mid-century lounge chairs with reupholstered L.L.Bean black and red plaid fabric cushions, along with an oversized circular Sarreid coffee table with a custom honed princess white marble top.

The two bedrooms are fitted with custom ABC Home patchwork rugs, reclaimed Russian Pine headboards, mirrors featuring custom live-edge wood frames, pebble stone-tiled bathroom showers, naturally stained nickel-gap wood along the walls, honed princess white marble top night tables and John Robshaw linen bedding accented with wool blankets. The primary room, located within the suite, features a Herman Miller dresser, a 1920’s vintage antler above the headboard and artwork from Timothy Wilson, sourced from the nearby Corey Daniels gallery in Wells, Maine, while the secondary room boasts an antique dresser, a framed vintage Maine state flag above the headboard and Jonathan Mess reclaimed slab ceramic. Each bedroom has access to a private screened-in porch outfitted with a built-in daybed and pillows reupholstered by designer Stephen Kenn’s distinctive military canvas alongside chairs reupholstered with Academy Wool blankets.

A stay in The From Away Lodge by Todd Snyder includes a Porch Picnic for two delivered to the Treetop Lodge, access to Kennebunkport’s largest and most scenic beach, Goose Rocks Beach, as well as a special welcome. Ready to indulge in a rustic-chic New England escape? Book your stay HERE!
