Dinner Finances
The special menus were detailed in the transcribed minutes, hand-written in a font designed by Tiffany & Co. in volumes bound by Charles Scribner & Sons. The copies of minutes are worth $100,000 now and cover 60 years of meetings.
"Brother Pisces produced pickled scallops which were pronounced admirable." -First Volume
The finances used to pay for dinner are meticulously described in the minutes down to the last imported drop and crumb. Record of Brother Taurus's dinner at The Knickerbocker Club in 1887 has survived and the lavish meal included dished such as "Green Turtle, Clear", "Terrapins a la Knickerbocker" and "Ailes de perfreaux a la financier." Each meal today would set you back at least $1,600. Louis Sherry's home: The dinners were most frequently at Louis Sherry's private home at 5th Avenue and 44th Street. Sherry was one of the top restaurateurs of the day and the original creator of experience dining. He served a black-tie dinner on horseback for a riding-enthusiast tycoons in the 1903 version of dinner in the sky.
