Where: Swerve Fitness Other details: On Saturday morning, we had our butts kicked into high gear at Swerve Fitness on West 18th. What do we love more than getting our sweat on? Doing it for a great cause. In light of the awful tragedy of Avonte Oquendo, the child with autism who went missing in NYC, the fundraising event, “Spin For Safety”, raised money for emergency tool-kits. Due to the large percentage of children, a high fifty percent, who are at risk and prone to wandering off all of the event’s proceeds went to Autism Speaks. Since many autistic children are unable to sense danger or communicate verbally this initiative provides door and window alarms, safety alert wristbands, personal ID cards, and stop sign visual prompts to keep autistic children safe. $7,346 was raised over the weekend, and the total keeps rising. The ride was extra liberating. Everyone in the room pedaled with heart and the mindset that they were taking smalls steps towards making a difference. The party didn't stop after the ride. Liquiteria served post workout juices that quenched our thirst and replenished our electrolytes, as a DJ Alex Cecil spun background jams to the conversations and laughter.
