Other details: Last night DKNY Jeans and RAAT City presented a one-night only group show called "New Art City" at The Safari. The event brought together over a dozen young and talented artists, some of which have never presented work at a gallery before and some who are starring in the new DKNY Jeans campaign. Immediately as the doors opened, a huge line formed outside. Not long after that, a large crowd amassed of eager observers peering through the window, hoping to slip in to check out the work and sip on Stolen Rum's signature Smoke and Cokes. On the inside, the packed room was filled with a diverse group of artists, nightlife and fashion personalities, and skateboard kids. Near the front of the room nightlife regulars including Ryan Medina, Guyton Porter, and Zha Zha Vi all crowded around artist and exhibit curator John Tuite's photographs, one of which was a risque shot of Vi. They were surrounded by other works from Sandy Kim, Sophia Lamar, and more. Up a few steps were more photographs, including a piece by artist Chloe Wise featuring model Ashley Smith. Both Wise and Smith were there, excitedly catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Renowned photographer Ryan McGinley also came by and spent time checking out the work, and posed in front of Wise's 'bread purse' sculpture. He also made sure to show a few iPhone shots of his upcoming exhibit at Team Gallery to a few lucky guests, only making them more enthusiastic about the robust show. Further back past the bar was Matt Starr's copious offering. In addition to knick knacks emblazoned with the word 'Diet' on them, there was a fountain (spouting out neon green liquid), yoga mats, trampolines, and a treadmill all featuring the same word. Several of the guests were bouncing on the trampolines and a couple even started walking on the treadmill. One guest regrettably tried the neon green liquid coming out of the fountain, only to shriek out "it's not Gatorade!" The walls had moving clouds projected onto them, and in the corner was a large hill with a sculpture atop of it. The Drowners' lead singer Matt Hitt hung out at the event and supported band guitarist Jack Ridley, who had a few pieces on display. The two were happy to be in New York ahead of a national tour, returning on October 28th for the last stop of the tour. Rock 'n' roll DJ Alix Brown was also at the event before heading to the Soho Grand to spin with Tennesee Thomas. Model Cole Mohr was also lounging around with friends on a couch as the guests observed his work, and Brandee Brown brought her signature cheerful attitude as she posed for pictures.
