The black-tie affair drew a crowd of onlookers curious to see who would come through the mall's entrance, where a red carpet was laid out. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, actors Josh Duhamel and Liam Hemsworth, and legendary filmmaker Woody Allen all set off dozens of camera flashes before entering the store. Inside, the atmosphere was relaxed, but there was still a sense of anticipation to see Marco's work. Guests were constantly inquiring of his whereabouts, excited to hear about his follow up to the applauded "Creation" earlier this year. Within minutes of his arrival, we found ourselves swept up in the crowd surrounding him, which included artists Marina Abramovic, Aaron Young, and jewelry designer Waris Ahluwalia.
Soon after, the crowd made their way to the third floor, and into the mezzanine. An orchestra from Julliard was set up, and everyone tried to position themselves perfectly in front of the three massive screens. Mayor Bloomberg appeared on one to give a short introduction before the chords of "Carnival of the Animals" were struck and the video began. The audience, which included Andre Balazs, Vito Schnabel, and Joel Schumacher front-and-center, was mesmerized by the striking visuals. The screening ended with loud cheers before everyone made their way back into the Hugo Boss store for drinks and music by DJ Kiss.
The installation will be up until September 30th, and any Instagram video with the tag #hbnyc will be a part of this site.[Alex Lundqvist][Photos via, via, via]
