Last Night's Parties: New Year's Eve Celebrations, The 56th Annual Debutante Ball

by Mara Siegler · January 3, 2011

Over 9.1 million people rang in the new year with Dick Clark, Carson Daly sadly refrained from dressing like a giant baby, Andy Cohen compared his celebration to the full frontal public access Robin Byrd Show,  Jane Lynch judged a toilet paper contest, debs bowed, firefighters took off their shirts and much, much more. 2011 has arrived!

    CIROC The New Year

    Lauren HillWhere: Gansevoort Park Avenue

Who Was There: Chiara, Dylan McDermott, Rob Morrow, Gina Gershon, Lauryn Hill, Tyrese Gibson, Claudia Jordan, David Oliver, Jim Beanz, Chase Landon, DOE

Other Details: As Diddy hit Vegas, Kourtney Kardashian took Miami, and Pete Wentz did his thing in Chicago for CIROC, the brand got down and dirty with an NYC shindig. Lauren Hill performed, according to one Twitter user, reggae tunes. She was on time, which is more than can be said for the night before when she was scheduled to play Music Hall of Williamsburg at 8:30pm and didn't go on stage until 12:05am, eliciting boos from the crowd. Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2011

    Where: Times Square

Who Was There: Jennifer Hudson, Fergie, Jason Derulo, Far East Movement, Prohgress, Avril Lavigne, Drak, Elly Jackson of La Roux, Natasha Bedingfield, Mike Posner, Patrick Monahan of Train, Ke$ha, Ryan Seacrest, Taio Cruz, Willow Smith, Backstreet Boys, NKOTB, Miss Ameria 2010 Caressa Cameron

Other Details: Around 9.1 million people tuned in between 10 and 11 p.m. on Friday to watch Ryan Seacrest and Dick Clark rock in the New Year. Did you watch? If not, you missed a smattering of performances from the likes of Taio Cruz and Ke$ha. Avril Lavigne appeared to be lip syching, which may have caused so much anger that fans/non-fans decided to start the rumor on Twitter that she died. Perhaps the best number?  Willow Smith whipping her hair around. Or NKOTB and Back Street Boys together. It made me feel how I always feel when see them: simultaneously excited (Yay! I'm reliving my childhood!) and depressed (OMG! My childhood has wrinkles!)

    Where: Bravo Club House

Who Was There: Lisa Vanderpump, Dina Manzo, Andy Cohen Tamra Barney, Kim Zolcia, Nene Leakes, Meghan McCain

Other Details: While Bravos' televised New Year's fete didn't bring in the numbers that Dick Clark's special did, many a viewer heeded Andy Cohen's warning to not be "tardy to this party."  Housewives from the various cities turned up, as well as Meghan McCain who we can only assume is gearing up to take Cat Ommanney's place on the DC version. Andy described the evening as a "mix of fellini and The Robin Byrd Show." " It was live, unscripted, weird, and fun. After the show, the party went on in another room and we all kicked it hard,"  he wrote on his blog. [Via]

Lil Wayne, introduced by Nicki Minaj, took the stage just before midnight to sing "6 Foot 7 Foot," when his mich went out. Fans didn't care and kept on screaming at a pitch that would have drowned him out regardless.  Bono and The Edge also stopped by to talk about actor-crippling musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, saying "People fly behind you when you're sitting in the seats. There's fight sequences happening in the roof. Things happen that you've never seen in the theater before."Uh-huh. Like, potential death. [Via]
