Other details: Last night, Pharrell Williams celebrated his collaboration with Uniqlo at the Japanese label's 5th Avenue flagship. The #iamOther collection is all about individuality, “what makes you different, makes you special,” explained Williams. Andre Leon Talley sported a hat from the collection, where “The Same Is Lame” was emblazoned across his forehead. Leon Talley was particularly animated about Pharrell's look, “He’s my favorite inspiration of the moment. I only wish I could dress like Pharrell. I am very inspired by him. He’s just extraordinary in his approach to how fashion should be; it should be very democratic and very progressive. [Pharrell] is the best progressive fashion icon of today!” Pharrell paired his Uniqlo tee with a Chanel cardigan and pearls, as well as painted Adidas Stan Smith sneakers. Williams explained that the infamous Vivienne Westwood hat was on “vacation.” GQ's Jim Moore arrived early, chatting with Pharrell’s wife, Helen Lasichanh. Nigo was also on hand to fete the collaboration launch, where he took the time to pose with fans. Shimon and Ariel Ovadia swung by to check out Pharrell’s latest project, as did Michael Avedon and Todd Bishop.
“[Uniqlo] is extraordinary and superb - It’s a great collaboration and I love the store,” beamed Leon Talley. Beats from Pharrell’s latest album, GIRL, blasted throughout Uniqlo’s expansive space. The collaboration features Men’s and Women’s t-shirts, as well as a series of baseball hats. “It honestly feels like a $50-$80 tee in terms of the feel and the silhouette and all of the form and function and attention that was put into it by Nigo,” explained Pharrell in the collaboration video which played throughout the space. The “I am OTHER” collection is currently available at select Uniqlo locations.
